Promotion of Kabaddi Game

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Sarbananda Sonowal has said that the performance of Indian Kabaddi Teams, both men and women, in international events, has been very satisfactory and encouraging, as they won Gold medals in recently held Incheon Asian Games 2014.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Sonowal said, the primary responsibility for promotion of Kabaddi in the country is that of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), the National Sports Federation (NSF) for the discipline of Kabaddi recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The Ministry and Sports Authority of India (SAI) supplement the efforts of the AKFI in promotion of Kabaddi in the country under their schemes such as Scheme of Assistance to NSFs, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan, Scheme of Special Awards to winners of medals in international sports events and their coaches, Scheme of Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons, National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC) Scheme, SAI Training Center (STC) Scheme, Special Area Games (SAG) Scheme, Army Boys Sports Companies (ABSC) Scheme and Centres of Excellence (COE) Scheme.
